The swank, dreary burg's bored and ignored adolescent population wreaks much havoc (senseless vandalism, excessive swilling of cheap, available booze, inane, but irritating pranks, multifarious abuse of illegal illicit narcotic substances, and so on), which the kids see as the sole viable option for kicking the never-ending tedious blahs that are an intrinsic part of living in such a pedestrian small town. New Grenada is a cozy, pleasant, sedate planned suburbanite community in California. Reviewed by Woodyanders 10 / 10 The kids are totally messed up! a movie that dares and that tests quite a few limits. Again, I am not trying to defend certain thing that are being done (especially the things on the bridge with passing by cars. hear you and understand the struggle and issues you are having. it is quite clear it is an (out)cry for help. And while I do not approve of certain things the kids do. but the movie seems to be doing a lot of things right. Not sure if there are laws at place that are supposedly protecting the youth from abuse or irritations throughout filming. and the fact that you don't have twenty something year olds portraying teens is quite something. it has not aged when it comes to rebel youth outlooks. While this has aged significantly in some departments. Otherwise, this is a really interesting cult classic. That violence needs to be backed up by a pounding rock anthem. When Carl gets beaten up, traditional classical music gets played. It does need to play up the rock music of that era. It reminds me of Kids (1995) except it's in suburbia. It's got an indie feel with real amateur kids playing the roles. The kids are doing more than a little weed. There is some good music but only in the background. He's not the lead but he steals the movie.
The clash between the kids and the establishment only escalates. After Carl gets beaten, cops close the rec center. They get into trouble and hassled by the cops. They do drugs and hang out at the rec center. Carl (Michael Kramer), Ritchie (Matt Dillon), Claude (Tom Fergus), Johnny (Tiger Thompson) and the other neighborhood kids are restless and rebellious against their suburban lives.
